  Thank you for your comments and concern.

  I have been profoundly blessed to have this man and his very beloved family in my life for many years. I have lived in their home as a renter (and as a periodic squatter of sorts (during bad financial times).

  He never once judged us or demanded any more of us than we could offer. He was a truly kind person and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He was a unique free spirit who had enormous stress and loss during the past few years, but who always maintained integrity and remained dignified, centered and true to himself and to all he knew.

  I will return with his obit. It was very nicely done. The service held for him Thursday night was very comforting.

  Donald Taube Mr. Donald Taube, age 64, of Wilmington, died July 9, 2007, at his residence. Born in Durham, NC, and raised in Chevy Chase, MD. He graduated from St. John's college in Annapolis where he studied philosophy, attended Columbia Library School, then worked for IBM in Poughkeepsie, NY, where he signed on as a one week volunteer for the Sloop Clearwater owned by folksinger Pete Seeger, to crusade for a non polluted Hudson River. Soon after, at age 28 he left his position at IBM and signed on as a full time Clearwater crew member serving as cook and eventually captain. He married Ola June Clifton (deceased) in 1976. His long career as a sailor, shipwright, carpenter and master blacksmith saw him working with boats up and down the east coast. He was a captain on the Rachel & Ebenezer, sailing between Orient Point, Long Island and Connecticut and at the time of his death , working at the South Street Seaport Museum in New York City, where he was a captain of the Pioneer. While living in Wilmington, he supervised the restoration of the teak deck on the Battleship North Carolina. He leaves a daughter, Jessica Taube; sisters, Susan Schwelling (George) and Deborah Hutton (Bruce); and many nieces and nephews; and a large cache of friends and associates from all over the world. A memorial service will be held tonight, Thursday, July 12, 2007, at 6:30 p.m. at the B'Nai Israel Synagogue at 25th and Chestnut Streets by Rabbi Robert Waxman. A service of Coble Ward-Smith Funeral and Cremation Service, Oleander Chapel. 910-791-4444. Published in the Star-News on 7/12/2007.   Philosopher, boatwright, welder, teacher, friend, and so much more. He will be so greatly missed. He made a difference in many lives.

  Wife and kids left me

  long story short, (i'll post it later), after many years of problems with the wts my wife and kids left me and she has filed for divorce (no adultery was committed).

  feeling really sad right now.

  i was a great husband and father, however, i could not take the thought of going to any more meetings and have over the last year started to find was to avoid meetings.

  Try to find some fun things to do with your kids whenever you get visitation. You have that right as a father. Your kids do not deserve to lose their father and you don't deserve to lose them because of leaving a cult. I am very sorry to hear of this.

  Take pictures and take them to the police and/or social worker and to a child advocacy commission.

  You know, for years, I thought it was hatred or the outright mean things people would say to me; but, really, all in all, I most remember always being the last to be chosen by others for everything (even spelling bees which I was almost good at). BTW, I'm talking about grade school, since I left the dubyahs at 15.

  The last at all team sports, the last at anything and everything - or second or third to last - no matter what. I was always at the bottom of the heap - with the "fatty", the "hick," the "dummy" and the total nerd. Always last, and if not very last, then third-to-last.

  And then, there was the incessant teasing and name-calling. Wah! Glad I'm not in that situation anymore.

  Just watching my daughter's High School video yearbook with her . . .

  and thinking how normal they all look and act - having all kinds of worldly fun, very unself-consciously.

  my daughter is so happy with getting a copy of the video yearbook from her digital video prodcutions class at a discount .

  it's cool to actually see her participating in all the wacky events she spent hours throughout the school year preparing for the night or week before: the school spirit week, tacky day, the prom; the many friends and social events.

  Thanks for the nice replies, guys! I have been very busy this past week with work and with my daughter's graduation stuff. She graduated last Saturday! Wee hah! I had to look at the diploma several times to make sure it was real. We went out to dinner with friends to celebrate at one to the best restaurants in town and spent a ridiculous amount of money and have no regrets. She started her new work schedule yesterday - 6:30 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. Yikes, we are NOT morning people. Anyhoo, life is good and summer's here and I'm looking forward to a weekend of doing just what I want to do, just for me - no FS, no preaching, no JW crapola. Thanks again.

  Sometimes I feel over-exposed due to my matter-of-fact posts, which are mostly sober; some are drunken and then I'm really a bit worried.

  People being unfriendly or mistrusting towards me at these boards concerns me less than when people actually contact me and take a personal interest and start PM'ing me and such. I feel paranoid, vulnerable, totally mistrusting, wondering, 'what am I being set up for' (because I know I must have pissed some one off with my honesty).

  Honesty about a cult and about a cult-influenced family can be a catch-22, don't you think? It's certainly that way for me. I think I am that way in the real world a bit too. I move away from intimacy, even though I wish for it, due to the fear of being damaged again because of my honest appraisal and sharing my perceptions. (And let's not even go on to the topic of questioning my perceptions about things - always questioning that, too! What a headache).

  How Would You Approach a JW "studying" in Public Transportation?

  i get to the office by train.

  recently, when i left the train at my destination station i noticed a jw, sitting there, obviously "studying" the "revelation"-book for the night's cbs.

  it was too late for my, but i was thinking about saying something like "don't you get it at the third time that this is bullshit?

  I think they would be happy if you interupted them with any discussion about anything BUT religion - like science - for instance. Maybe you could give them a much-needed break from their dreary reading material, without even noticing that they're studying crap. Just help them replace the crap for a moment of their day with something mind-enhancing without any confrontation whatsoever. If they bring up religion, then you have your opening; otherwise, just distract them with something exciting or interesting about the real world.
